Gazing at the ground with an unavoidable air of sadness, Peri tried to steel her resolve, already beginning to feel herself crumbling.
'But...I-I don't want...'
She knew... she didn't want it that way either.
It would have probably been better for her to just bite the bullet and explain her shortcomings, but that would mean leaving herself vulnerable, and that was just something she couldn't do.
Finding herself met with a sorrowful gaze, she froze, seeing the sadness within him, and even perhaps a hint of betrayal. All she wanted at that point in time was forgiveness, a way to forget what she had become and start all over again. With him, this time. Somehow, her little plaything for a night had managed to secure a place within her consciousness, a place that she didn't believe was going to go anywhere anytime soon...
She just wanted his friendship. His companionship, to know that he understood and that she wasn't some sort of freak, not around him at least.
She just wanted to feel safe.
Glancing up at the sun, Peri yelped, a wave of shock running through her. The sun was already beginning to dip towards the west, meaning that it was late afternoon, and more than likely around the time she was meant to start work.
C-crap, I'm meant to work this evening...
As this was said within her mind, she whined, almost akin to a human cry, knowing that her boss already disliked her for her erratic behaviour, and occasional complaints about Peri's conduct from customers. At this rate, one more missed shift was going to get her fired...
