Things were not going the way Mathias had planned tonight. And this was not something that Mathias liked. In fact,Any moment now Mathias Ark was going to have a tantrum... Or maybe walk over to some shy tourist, huddled over their beer in one of the far corners, and insult them. That might make him feel better, or at least take his mind off of what a complete waste this night had turned out to be.
Here he was, in prime position at the bar; drink in hand, hair tightly styled, and what he knew to be his most charming smirk balanced across his face... ...And there was nobody here to enjoy it! Well...Nobody worth while at any rate.
Not even the rather sexy barmaid looked set to make an appearance tonight, and this did not please Mathias one single bit. The world, he thought, should be prepared to make it's plans around him and his needs...Not go gallivanting about on it's own ends when he wanted to enjoy himself for an evening!

I walk through the door of Tooley's with Raven on my shoulder. I look at him, wondering where I should sit. The room has a weird tint to it and I'm not exactly sure if I'm supposed to be here. Raven points his beak at a male with blond hair sitting at the bar and I look at him like he's frazy. He softly croaks though, and I know I must trust him. I walk over and sit next to the male on a stool. I clear my throat and look at him out of the corner of my eye. He looks pretty offlandish. I don't know if Raven was right this time. But he's always right. I have to learn to trust him. I swivel in my chair to face the man. Hello. My eyes graze over him as I wait for his introduction.

It was the bird that caught his attention first, unsurprisingly enough. Anyone walking into a bar with a bird perched on their shoulder was bound to achieve some level of attention, regardless of when or where.
Still, the girl on which the bird was sat- with her strong, sharp features and mass of dark hair- was certainly a refreshing sight after the dull housewives and exhausted looking tourists he had had to endure all evening. For that, Mathias was willing to forgive any manner of strangeness a hot chick was willing to throw at him. Besides; it wasn't as if he planned to see her again, after all. He wondered if the thing was stuffed...
Flicking a hand quickly through his hair and straightening his collar as she sat down, Mathias turned his best smile on the girl, careful to look as if he hadn't been oggling her since she had walked in. Hey, That's certainly an...interesting shoulder accessory you have on. Is it real?
The last question was spoken with a loud laugh as he reached out to touch the bird's wing.

I cock my eyebrow when he asks me of Raven is real. I'm just about to tell him that he is real when Raven croaks and bites him. I try to stifle my laugh but it's no use--that was just too funny. I nod, biting my lip a little bit saying, Yea. He's real alright. I reach over my shoulder and pet Raven, his piercing yellow eyes watching the man. Obviously Raven wasn't expecting the male to attempt to touch him. I hold my hand out and Raven flits from my shoulder to my hand and I set him down on the edge of the bar. I turn back to the cocky and rude guy with a smirk on my face. He totally deserved for Raven to bite him.

Mathias yelped and pulled his finger back sharply as the huge bird suddenly snapped forward and bit him, it's sharp yellow beak cutting into the skin of his finger and drawing a small swollen line of blood. Cursing, he drew back, childishly nursing his injured finger, giving the bird a dark, hateful look as he leaned away from it.
"Stupid animals shouldn't be allowed out in public! What if the wretched thing has rabies?"
He declared, waving his cut finger angrily as the girl confirmed that yes, the creature was real. Glaring still as the girl placed the bird carefully down onto the bar- causing Mathias to inch his barstool further away from the counter- Mathias turned his attention to it's owner. Muttering sulkily.
"Can I help you?"

I instantly turn serious when he insults Raven. Is he for real?! Birds can't get rabies! Only mammals can! Is he stupid??? Well, from what I can tell, he is. And he's human too. Figures. Obviously you're not very intelligent. If you know anything about rabies or animals, you would know only mammals can get rabies--not birds.
[/color] I growl at him and hope he gets scared. You can help me by not being so naive and ignorant.[/color][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Blinking at the sudden outburst, Mathias scowled deeply and crossed his arms, lifting his chin in contempt for this girl and her stupid pet; What did he care of the creature had rabies or not? The thing had bitten him! What if it left a scar?
As if I care about that
He muttered darkly, sneering cockily at the bird. Thinking about it, the girl was probably some sort of hippie; using the animal as a fashion statement or something. Crazy or weird or...Something. Reaching out to push his beer glass away from the thing's- what was it? Some sort of deformed crow?- reach he continued.
So, are you just here to have your thing bite innocent bystanders or something?

I glare at him and Raven crows at him. Obviously neither of us like him, so why must Raven make me talk to him?! I give Raven a dirty look and then return my gaze to the male. My raven and I are here to have a drink. What are you here for? To piss people off as much as possible? Or do you do this naturally?
[/color] I give him a disgusted look and roll my eyes. This guy obviously needs to be taught a lesson; and honestly I would love to be the one to do it. Being beaten up by a girl would surely knock him down a few pegs. Both his ego and reputation--if he even has one. Honestly I don't think anyone could be capable of tolerating--let alone liking--this jerk. What's his problem anyway?! I think it's time you took your head out of your ass and looked at the world without your crappy attitude. Who do you even think you are?![/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Mathias's sneer quickly became a dark frown as the girl continued her insults. Her creature croaking along with her words as if it agreed with her. This was not the way things were supposed to go! By this point, any woman Mathias spoke to was supposed to be falling head over heels for him. ...Or rather, be prepared to do so for the remainder of the night.
Gritting his teeth, he shoved the injured hand into a pocket of his jeans and narrowed his eyes at the girl as she finished her little rant. Ah, so that's what it was; she was obviously demented. Looking for attention because she was...Jealous of him! A smile came to his lips as he finally solved, in his mind, the great mystery of why he had found himself in such a situation.
Knocked confidence thus restored, his smile grew into one of mock sympathy. Reaching for his glass, he replied, in a voice dripping with smirking contempt.
"Mathias Ark, of course; undoubtedly you've heard of me"

My eyebrow cocks and I shift in my seat. Is he serious? I've never heard of this jerk in my life. I shake my head. Actually, no. I haven't. I don't think anyone I know has heard of you either. Sorry. Maybe if you were actually all that you thought you were I would have; but I haven't.
[/color] My anger has faded and I sigh, resting my head in my hands I look over the counter. My eyes find their way to Raven and he cocks his head, watching me. A low sound eminates from him and he quakes a little bit. He flies onto my shoulder and softly runs his beak across my cheek.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

All that she thought he was? What was that supposed to mean? Didn't she like what she saw? Running his unhurt hand through his hair for a second time before finally snatching up his glass, Mathias watched as the girl seemed to slump, her bird cawing and hopping about her on the counter.
Thankful that he'd taken his drink away in time before the creature could shake feathers or fleas into his glass, Mathias took a swig before deciding to have a small jab back at her rude behavior.
"What's wrong with your animal? Is it sick or something?"
He asked, mock concern again dripping from every word as the raven emitted a low croaking sound before hopping onto the girl's shoulder.

I look back at him and roll my eyes. He's stupid, isn't he? I would be foolish to say he wasn't. Everyone--accept stupid people--know that healthy ravens do that naturally. Sick ravens don't move, croak, or fly. He's obviously doing all three, therefore he's not sick. Honestly, your stupidity is boring the crap out of me, so before I lose all my brain cells, I'm going to have to leave.
[/color] I stand, Raven sinking his claws into my shoulder, urging me to stay, but honestly, I doubt that if I stay this situation is going to get any better. I push my chair in and turn, glad I didn't buy anything so that I can just get up and leave. Walking out the door I hear a chair scraping against the floor but ignore it. I'm getting out of here. I make a left into an ally way and head behind Tooley's. It's quite tight and I'm thankful for that as I jump between the walls to get to the roof. I motion with my head for Raven to go ahead and fly, so he does. I watch him as he makes wide circles far above my head. He's so majestic and beautiful. I wish I could fly too....[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

"What sort of idiot sits around all day learning about bi- HEY!"
The Girl's stool scraped back on the wooden floor, signalling her exit halfway through Mathias's attempt at a witty comeback. He jumped up as she strolled past, the raven clamped tightly to one shoulder, not even looking back as she swept away from him.
How...How rude! Not to mention stupid; Mathias had been willing to give the girl a chance (looking past her annoying behavior, she was the fittest thing he'd seen all night, after all) and she'd just blown it because he wasn't some sort of....Bird nerd! ...Mathias paused and chuckled to himself at that...Bird nerd...He'd have to remember that for later.
So saying, he grabbed his jacket and hurried after her into the cold night, determined to have the last laugh over the rude girl and her stupid creature. Looking around for a sign of the girl- she couldn't have gone far, surely? Not with that thing attached to her shoulder- he heard several loud, crashing thuds from an alleyway to the left.
ahh, so she was trying to run? With a triumphant smirk on his lips, Mathias made his way round to the narrow passage that snaked behind Tooley's....A smirk that died on his lips as he witnessed the girl (unmistakable, even in the dull moonlight) jump gracefully from one side of the wall to the other, landing on the roof with a small thud.
"What....What the HELL?"
Was the eloquent sentence that escaped his gaping mouth.

As I'm looking up at Raven flying eerily and fluently, I hear an all-too familiar voice saying, "What...What the HELL?". I look down at him from off the roof. And you followed me why???
[/color] I take a deep breath and close my eyes. I remember what Jennika had said to me about when I get mad. She knows how I get. I phase and flip out and then come really close to killing people. So, I count to ten, sigh, and open my eyes, looking at him. Umm...I'm sorry. I think we got off on the wrong foot. I'm Daire. Daire Santos. It's nice to meet you, Mathias.[/color] I find a ledge and hang down by my feet. Holding out my hand for him to shake, I smile kindly.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Watching the girl's form arch in the moonlight as she swung gracefully down from the ledge, her upside down face peering across to where he stood, transfixed in fear and pure unbelieving, Mathias could only utter a strangled little exclamation of surprise.
Her voice broke the spell, however, allowing Mathias to finally take a small, terrified step backwards away from the girl. He didn't want to know her name anymore, he didn't care. He wanted to be as far away from this...this thing jumped along walls and swung upside-down and carried a wretched Raven around with her.
Weirdo or crazy or...Whatever she was. Mathias didn't think he wanted to handle this. Especially not outside. In the dark. Away from the bar where he confidently knew what he was doing. As he spoke his own name- in half friendly greeting this time- he managed another little cry, this time sounding more like;
"aheh....ha....W-what...are...eh..."
The last 'eh' was a little mew of desperate protest.
