Today was one of the few nice days they had had through all the recent rains, so the people of Bucharest were all out enjoying the sun with picnics and hikes through the national forest. This meant the werewolves had to go in hiding or risk being seen- or at least, that's what Otto surmised. Today she had chosen to join her brothers and sister and all their families in the park, but as usual felt herself to be rather separate from the rest.
At the moment the dark skinned woman was sitting in the empty amphitheater. Her clothes were mediocre at best, nothing more than cargo pants, a white shirt, and a light jacket. She felt rather naked without her collar in her pocket, but she had promised her older brother she was a human today and would stay that way. It was probably for the best though. Most women didn't carry dog collars and yet not own a dog. Instead she wore a simplistic nickel silver necklace from the shop. A large nickel silver coin hung on the chain, decorated in a rampant wolf. A cheap cigarette hung from her lip, but she wasn't really smoking it anymore. Mostly she was just enjoying the sun shine and trying to prepare herself for going back to join the rest of the family.

"It's SUNNY!" Lance cheered, throwing his hands in the air and spinning for a moment. It turnedout to be a terrible idea though, for he became dangled in his own two feet and fell on his rear. "Not smooth..." He stood back up, having earned a few curious stares by a few passers. Though the moment they recognized Lance, they laughed and greeted him with a hello. He responded back loudly with compliments, winking at the ladies before getting back on to his feet. None of the others in his pack had wanted to come with him, so he was out and about by himself today. His sharp nose was good at picking up the smell of metal, so avoiding hunters was easy. He was on a hunt of his own though...he just hadn't figured out what he was hunting yet.

Otto jumped hard and looked around at the sound of the shout, eyes going wide at the sight of a young man falling squarely on his ass. Silly thing. The Roma chuckled darkly at him as she stamped out her fallen cigarette. You alright there? she laughed smartly at him, half teasing. The man was a strange looking fellow with all the wild hair, but she found it charming in a way. Like a pup. Her nose wasn't what it would be in her wolf form, but she could pick up the faint telltale smell of werewolf on him. Somewhat hopeful, the women rose and stomped up the stone seating a bit to get closer to him. If you had fallen down all them seats that vould haff been no good.

Lance's head turned when he heard a dark charkle, amber eyes focusing on a dark skinned woman. He gave a sheepish smile, running a hand through his wild red curls. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'd trip over my tail if it wasn't already attached to my rear." he commented with a laugh before grinning. He found a target! His nose picked up werewolf blood immediately, and he seemed to bubble in delight at it. He tilted his head slighty when she spoke again, having a little trouble understanding her accent at first. "Nah, probably not. Can't do much about it though. They should make signs that say 'No Spinning'." he replied, seeming to be quite serious about the idea. "Lance Kyer, by the way."

Otto raised a thick eyebrow and bared her yellowed teeth in an amused smile. The other werewolf's reaction- or at least, she was quite sure he was a werewolf- was funny. His joke about his tail made her more certain however, and she would've wagged her own tail had she been in her wolf form. This gaje was certainly a jovial fellow, all smiles and jokes. A real ham.
Otto chuckled again at his public safety proposal. It is nice to meet you, Lance Kyer, she answered. I am Otto Hadrarius, she introduced herself, smiling her regular wolffish grin and putting a booted foot up on the next teir of seating. Otto left out that she was Romani for now, not certain if this fellow would remain quite so friendly if he knew. Vhat is a man doing, our here spinning by himself?

"Otto Hadrarius..." he repeated, saying it slowly so as to pronounce it correctly. When he did, he clapped his hands in success before. He seemed to like it, since it was very different. He had moved here from America only a few years ago, but he'd been in Europe for a long time. At her question he raised his hands to the sky, "Because it's SUNNY" he exclaimed, "Why would I not be out here spinning? Though I would like company for it, the others are busy today. But I am always pleased to meet new, pretty faces." he added that last sentence with a flirtatious wink.

Otto smiled approvingly at the young man as he pronounced her name. She'd never heard it from an American mouth before. It seemed to take him some time to pronounce it just the way he wanted, though it still sounded strange to her, but the young woman smiled all the same. He certainly was enthusiastic. She laughed, a barking laugh, as the young man- Lance- shouted again. It was like he'd never seen the sun before.
Otto's generally content expression, if not quite so bright as her companion's, faded rather swiftly as the young man hit on her. And she worked so hard to avoid things like that. Still, from what she knew of men and wolves it shouldn't have surprised her that werewolves were dogs. Hump anything that would hold still long enough. Vhy, haff you seen any? Otto huffed jovially, looking around as if she thought Lance was speaking about someone else. It wouldn't have been that surprising if he were. Otto was hardly the picture of feminine beauty and grace- nearly six feet tall and muscular with not much to be had of curves and a strong jaw, Otto fit in more with men than she did other women.
There was one thing that intrigued her though. This fellow had spoken of "Others." What others? Other werewolves? Your family left you to go out spinnink alone today? Otto queried, trying to get him to tell her a little more. It may be dangerous to talk about this here, but who knew how things might go down. Otto was hardly the kind to use 'feminine wiles,' but if this man really was interested in her she might be able to lead him somewhere that it would be safer to talk.

He laughed when she didn't realize he was talking about her. He was the type that was complimenting all women, no matter who they were or how they looked. "I meant you, Otto." he said, giving her a nudge, "Pretty faces are faces that smile."
He said this with all honesty, because as far as his mind told him, she was a pretty face. She might be taller than him, but she still had a feminine look. There were plenty of tomboyish women in the world, but that didn't mean they weren't pretty!
"Ah, I guess you could call them family." he said, running a hand through his red curls. "I'm a member of a pack. My real family is missing, and although we're a bit of an odd bunch, the Validus pack is growing slowly."

Otto didn't resist the look of incredulity that seized her face as the young were insisted on pursuing the compliment. It sounded like a stretch to her, kind words hissed in exchange for something else, but Otto didn't much argue the point. After all, this American had proven himself to be quite unusual already. Perhaps the fool really did believe the thin compliments he handed out. Otto shook her head and broke into a yellowed smile, openly laughing at the young man. If you insist, she rumbled, slapping the young man on the shoulder.
When Lance came right out and explained he was in a pack Otto looked around a bit fearfully. He was certainly quite open about it... There weren't any hunters around we're there? Even if no one was toting silver bullets, any one of the humans here today could report this kind of talk. Still, she didn't expect to be lucky enough to meet a werewolf, one from a pack of all things, and was very eager to learn more about it. The Validus? Otto pursued, glancing about occasionally to see if anyone was listening.

Lance seemed to notice her fear of being overheard, and gave her a serious look. It was a little strange, but he could be serious when it was called for. "No worries, I always scout the place out before coming to the park. You don't have to worry, I can smell them metal on them long before they can see us. The people around here don't pay all that much attention to me as it is." he said, quieter this time before grinning again.
All the same, he stood, offering her a hand so she could walk with him. "Yeah. There are a lot of lost souls like me, so it's safer to stick close to one another."

Otto relaxed at Lance's reassurances, putting her faith in the younger man. She didn't take the hand he offered, perfectly capable of walking on her own. She would walk with him though. After all, Otto was eager to hear more about this pack. That makes sense. I am not eh... Otto paused for a moment, trying to think of the English phrase for what she wanted to say. Born vith this condition. I caught it ten years ago and I haff recently been trying to learn more about it. I vant to meet others like myself. Though it has been a decade, in many vays I am still like a baby.
Quietly, Otto hoped her family wouldn't show up and mess things up. She loved them dearly, but her human kin and the new family she was discovering were worlds apart. If they showed up now it might ruin her chance at learning more about werewolves. Still, she had promised her brother that today was a human day. Somewhat conflicted, Otto put her attention back to Lance. Something had occurred to her. You say there are many like you? Is it eh... Dangerous for the families of our people? Effen if they are normal?

He didn't push at her independence, since he was quite used to it from werewolf women. A lot of them tended to avoid his advances, though that never stopped him from trying. "Ah, you were bitten. That must be difficult." he responded, "I was born with it, though there are a few others in the town that were bitten. My good friend William was bitten, but he's a really really shy guy so..." he paused for a moment, "Actually, that would be very interesting to see." he waved that off.
"It's not safe being near a werewolf period." he stated, beginning to walk to a less populated area of the park. "As long as you don't let any hunters figure out the relation, it's safe. Hunters are not allowed to kill people by law, but that doesn't mean they won't try to use them. So long as you don't come across an bad werewolf, they should be safe for the most part. You can protect them, after all."

The dark skinned woman nodded as Lance explained, stowing away the name "William" for later. It might be interesting to talk to another who had been bitten and find out how he balanced his human and lupine lives. She also wondered how being born a wolf worked... Was it about the same as being bitten? Or was he stronger? Did his transformations feel the same way that hers did? Interesting? Otto questioned, raising an eyebrow as he waved away whatever he had been thinking. What would be interesting?
Lance's explanation about families worried her. It was true she had been separating herself from her clan lately, but she didn't want to leave them entirely. The psychic shop wasn't exactly subtle either... Daj, Mama, she was clever. Smarter than anyone else in the family and would help to keep them safe, but her brothers could be stupid and loud. Chewing her lip, Otto put worried eyes back to Lance. Vhat do ve do, then? I haff tried to be careful, but I vorry. Vhat does your, eh... "family" do? Even after being reassured, she was careful how she worded things. Better safe than sorry.

"William is just a fun guy. He doesn't realize it though," Lance wasn't normally the person people went to for serious questions, but it only spurred him to answer well. His serious character was slowly showing its colors, but only a little. This werewolf seemed so lost, which was disappointing. The werewolf that bit her should have at least helped her a little bit. He felt his teeth grind at the lack of responsibility. It was because of those werewolves that so willingly attacked people that the werewolf hunters were working so diligently to wipe them out.
He looked at her carefully as he tried to form an answer. She could destroy all ties with her family, but having that bond was far too important to let go so easily. Few werewolves still had blood relatives, so it was nice to even hear about a bitten werewolf still being able to stay around family. "We help protect one another. Some of us are better are some things, like I'm good at scouting." he pointed to his nose, wrinkling it a bit.. "I can smell metal and steel, and just about anything pretty easily. By having each other, we can go for runs with less of a change of being taken out. Few hunters attack more than one werewolf at a time."

Otto smiled at Lance's description of his friend. She didn't miss that he was frustrated, and worried a bit that all the questions were an annoyance. The long silence he lapsed into didn't help to ease that worry, and Otto chewed her lip again, worried. Hearing his answer came as something of a relief, and the answer itself was pleasant too. So it was a safety in numbers thing. Otto nodded to show she understood, smiling a bit again. She had so many more questions she wanted to ask now- it seemed each answer he gave only bred more questions- but now worried about asking them.
Vhat's it like? Being in a pack, Otto would settle for the most pressing question on her mind. In her imagination it was quite similar to the way her clan worked, but there wasn't really any way to know without asking.
