For Hamish, the rain in the town, out in the open and under the multicolored artificial lights, seemed to lose all charm and interest. A mere half an hour ago, maybe less, it had seemed almost warm and exciting as he stepped into his coat and stepped out into the woods, locking his door behind him.
But then he supposed, as he pottered down the streets of Eden town, out here it was less likely for his quickly fading eyesight to betray him and render him lost; the pathway to Tooleys was a well known and walked one for Hamish. He faintly wondered how long that would last; his limbs had begun to ache with alarming regularity these days, and he found himself more liable to shortness of breath. Not that any of this could push the old man from moving to somewhere more easily accessible, but it had still not gone unnoticed.
A smile ran across his wrinkled lips as the familiar sight of Tooley's bar came into sight. reaching forwards, he pushed open the heavy doors and stepped inside, pausing to shake rain from his coatsleeves and hat before making his way over to the bar.

[glow=white,2,300]Katie Holmes [/glow] A lamb among wolves With the opening of the door, several bar folk grunted and scattered, staying out of the slight rain and wind that came in with whoever had come inside. Turning her head, Katie found Hamish shaking his hat off and heading toward the bar. "I'll be right with you, Hamish," she called, reaching over a dirty table and picking up what was left after the past tender had left. Once the table was clean, and her tray was loaded with the glasses, she moved toward the bartop and Hamish.
Once she was on the opposite side of the bar, the young woman placed the tray down and pulled out a rag from the bucket under the bartop. "What brought you out this late, Hamish?" she asked, wiping the spot before an empty chair so that the older man could sit down and rest his bones. "And what would you like to drink?" she asked a smile on her face. From what she had heard, if seem Mr. Oran had seem paths she had started traveling. Rumor had it that his wife had been a werewolf and he had loved her greatly, much like how she loved her husband. But sadly, Mrs. Oran had passed away and as far as she knew he still lived all by himself outside of Eden Town, coming into town every now and again. But whatever he did, he meant that there was someone out there that she could talk to if she ever truly needed help dealing with a mate and a son that was a werewolf.[/blockquote]

Hamish's chipped smile widened as he slowly approached the well-lit bar, recognising the voice and figure of Katie as she tottered towards him, a tray of dirty empties balanced expertly in one hand.
"Take your time dear, I'm in no hurry"
He replied, watching her carefully place the tray down behind the bar before turning to him with a smile. Every time the pair met, almost always within the warm confines of Tooley's bar, Hamish couldn't help but admire the young woman's bright determination and will to look after herself and her son. She was a welcome, cheery face whenever he chose to take the trek down into town, and made for a light conversation he always enjoyed and looked forward to.
"The wind's picking up; high time I made a few trips to old Tooley's before I'm unable" He chuckled lightly and settled himself down gratefully in the empty space, sliding the wet woolen hat into a pocket
"And a pint will do me fine for tonight, dear"

Nodding her head, Katie went to making Hamish's drink while making sure the rest of the bar patrons behaved themselves. As she processed what the older man said she turned a slightly hard gaze on him. "And how are you doing, Mr. Oran?" she asked, setting his pint down in front of him. "I was starting to get worried, I hadn't seen you in here in a bit. I was going to ask Eclipse to go out and check on you tonight or I was going to do it in the morning," she stated, leaning against the bartop, propping her elbows on the bar and her chin on her hands.
Tonight's wardrobe for work was a little more flashy than the normal blue jeans and tank tops. Tonight she was wearing a maroon crushed velvet corset with black fastenings and tight black jeans with knee high boots. Her hair was twisted up with black and maroon chopsticks and curls brushing against her shoulders.
While she waited for Hamish to answer her question, she reach under the bartop and pulled out her bottle of soda and took a sip. She felt whole now that Damian was back and it seemed to show as she stood a little taller behind the bar. [/blockquote]

"I appreciate the concern, Miss Holmes, as always. But don't you worry yourself over me; you've got that boy of yours to take care of after all"
He chuckled again, his wrinkled cheeks smoothed somewhat by his crooked smile, transforming his face into something that was, whilst no younger looking, certainly more cheerful than one would first expect.
"and tell young Mister Holt not to mind me either; I'm doing just fine as I am"
His chuckle ended in a small series of dry racking coughs, which shook the old man's tall, lean body from top to toes before subsiding. He paused to take a swig of beer before looking up with a wan smile;
"fraid' you'll have to keep enduring my company for some time to come, if I have it my way; although I can't say the weather will let me if it continues as it is"
Taking another quick drink from the glass to punctuate the sentence, he paused to remove his heavy coat, folding it in his lap to gently steam in the bar lights.
"How is young Damien doing? If I may ask"

"Eric has gotten bigger. He's growing up so fast but he's adjusting well to life," she stated when he asked about her son. "He's actually started smiling and laughing again since Damian came home." His smile was infectious, causing her to break out in a grin, shaking her head a little as she thought about her son and husband.
Hearing Hamish asking her to tell Eclipse he was fine, she couldn't help but grin even more. "You know Eclipse, if your in Eden Town your pretty much part of his family. Even though your just out of town doesn't matter to him, he'll show you his own way of caring on his terms," she stated. "And you know we don't mind you coming around here. I've already told you if you wanted to move into town, Eric and I have an extra room. With Damian back, it's only a matter of time before Eclipse asks him to move back into the main house and that would mean we would need someone to look after our house. We wouldn't mind if you moved in there, it would put my mind at ease. I don't like you being out there all by yourself," she stated. And then he asked the unthinkable. Her eyes teared up and she ended up wiping them away quickly. "He's adjusting well, I guess," she stated, looking around the bar. "Its only been a couple of days since he's been back, but its been so wonderful to have him home," she stated, suddenly realizing that she was talking about her werewolf husband when Hamish had lost his werewolf wife. "I didn't mean to go on and on," she gasped, quickly shaking her head and wiping the counter down.[/blockquote]

Hamish quickly waved away her concerns with a long, thin hand, his face still set in a warm half-smile.
"I'm fine just where I am, Miss Holmes; I've told you before. I've lived up in that house for longer than you've been alive and I've managed this far. I'm not simply about to give in and do what my failing eyesight wants of me."
He chuckled again and slipped the slowly drying coat onto the stool next to him, letting it hang evenly on the small surface, the brown fabric almost brushing the bar floor.
"Besides, it's hardly yours or young Mr Holt's jobs to look after me; no matter what he may think. Although don't think I don't appreciate the gesture; you know I'm always thankful for all you've done for me"
Grasping the mug snugly in two hands, Hamish smiled at Katie's next statement; her love for her husband was a refreshing and tender thing to witness, and reminded him of his younger years with Esme, when their love was in first bloom. He felt touched.
"Think nothing of it dear; I'm as glad as you are that he's safe"

Katie listened to the older man speak. He made perfect sense and she couldn't blame him one bit, but glancing over his shoulder and glancing around the bar, she sighed a little sad. Here was an old man who lived alone on the outskirts of town and was in slightly failing health. She worried horribly whenever she didn't see him at least once every day. However, he was a proud man, someone she could respect. Taking a deep breath, she could only nod her head as he finished speaking.
"My offer still stands if you ever want to stay the night. Eric would love to hear your stories," she stated, the tears back in her eyes as he spoke one last time. "Its been five years and I'm just grateful that he's back home safely. The fact that Eclipse allowed him back into the pack and gave him a good position is wonderful, he's not Beta anymore, which means he'll be home more," she grinned, placing a hand on one of his and placing another pint in front of him while pulling out her soda and lifting it toward Hamish. "To our loved ones," she said, raising a toast to those past and present that meant so much to them all. The werewolves in the bar turned and lifted their glasses in response to her toast.[/blockquote]

"I'm sure young Eric will have plenty to hear from his papa without myself pottering around"
Hamish smiled back and accepted the pint glass and the warm touch of Katie's hand with a nod of gratitude. He was happy for the young woman, he truly was; Eric was growing up into a fine boy, and he knew Damien, when he pulled himself together, would make an excellent Father for the little one. Esme would have been proud to see such a happy little family of human and werewolf, and proud of Damien for doing the right thing.
He joined the others in lifting his glass in a solemn salute at Katie's words, the memories of his Esme still fresh in his mind.
"Thank you, Miss Holmes"
he said quietly, once the room had settled back to it's normal hum of noise.

[glow=white,2,300]Katie Holmes [/glow] A lamb among wolves Smiling at the older man, Katie simply shook her head. "No, thank you, Mr. Oran," she stated, reaching over the bartop and patting his weathered hands. "When I first met Damien, the pack spoke very highly of you and your mate. When I heard about how you two made things work, even though she was . . . a werewolf," she whispered the last word not wanting anyone to bother the old man while he tried to relax. "If I hadn't known that it was possible for our two species could live together I wouldn't have given Damian the time of day," she smiled. Patting his hand, she leaned up, winking at the older man. "Consider these two on the house, no matter what Tooley says," she stated, already turning around so he couldn't argue.[/blockquote]
